ALCOHOL & SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Abuse of substances such as alcohol, marijuana and miraa – a narcotic stimulant, is increasing among the youth in the district especially in the trading centres. This can be attributed to availability of disposable income that the youth get from selling sand and livestock. The youth subsequently abuse drugs and alcohol that have adverse effects like: memory loss, engaging in crime, participating in prostitution and which can even lead to death. Involving these youth in sporting activities such as cricket will occupy them in a positive manner encouraging healthier lifestyles,
thus contributing to positive community development.
