At this week’s club meeting our District Governor, Suzanne Brenning, had the pleasure of presenting Paul Harris Fellowship awards to members Nicholas Thompson and Gustaf-Wilhelm Hellstedt. Member Per Hellsten was also presented with an award in recognition of the generosity he and his hotel has shown the club since SIRC began holding its meetings there some years ago.

Following the award ceremony club president Tomas Sveinsson introduced visiting guests and guest speaker  Saidimu Ole Ngais, founder of MAAGI. MAAGI -Maasai Girls Cooperation.  Saidimu gave us a thorough insight into the reasons why nearly all Maasai girls in Africa still endure genital mutilation and how his newly established organisation plans to involve male members of Maa society in the eradication of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Maasailand over the coming years.

Following the meeting club members and guests moved into the hotel breakfast room for celebratory drinks, snacks and some spontaneous Maasai dancing. Thanks to Per Hellsten and his staff at Hotel Hellsten and Fredrik Svanberg of Gourmet Food AB for providing the snacks and drinks.
